In 1961, The Everett Gospel Mission was established to provide dignity and compassionate care for homeless men, women and children in our community. For the past 52 years, we have done just that while becoming the largest emergency shelter in Snohomish County for men women and children.
With the help of our friends, we have been reaching out to the thousands of men, women and children in our community to provide them with hope and a second chance.
We are not only saving lives but making a difference in our community as we fight homelessness in Snohomish County. Over the past 52 years, we have provided over:
6,000,000 free hot meals served
1,250,000 nights of warm and safe sleep
25,000 lives given hope and a chance to change
That's something to celebrate! But we didn't do this alone, and can't move forward through the next 52 years alone. Going forward will take YOU!
And to help all of us take the first step forward into the next 52 years, Everett Gospel Mission invites you to join us for our third annual Walk for Hope Here.
The Walk for Hope Here is a 1.8 mile walk from the EGM Women's Shelter to the Men's Shelter on June 8, 2013. Join us to participate in this fun one-day event that will start all of us on a journey together as we walk toward alleviating poverty in our community.
Why a Walk?
As participants walk the almost two mile course, we hope they will take a moment to "walk in the shoes" of our neighbors and try to understand what it feels like to be out in the cold, the rain or the extreme heat without the comfort of a home. When the weather outside is not comfortable, it's easy to rush home and escape from the elements. However, the homeless don't always have that option.
By participating in this event, you will be helping bring the message to our community that you support alleviating poverty and homelessness HERE. The walk is so much more than a great way to raise funds, it is an awareness raiser, aimed at increasing the community’s understanding of the issues faced by the homeless and the services our organization provides, including:
Basic essentials like: shelter, hot meals, showers, clothing, toiletries and laundry
Bible training classes, access to therapeutic day care and substance abuse counseling
Hope, dignity, self-sufficiency, life stability and a chance for a fresh start
The walk is so much more than a great way to raise funds, it is an awareness raiser, aimed at increasing the community’s understanding of the issues faced by the homeless and the services our organization provides, including:
Free meals and housing for 170 men each night at our Men’s Shelter and for 75 women & children each night at our Women and Children’s Shelter, as well as reduced rental units for up to 10 single women at Lydia House.
Substances abuse counseling, clothing, toiletries, showers, laundry, Bible training classes, access to therapeutic day care and three hot, nutritious meals every day of the year.
Dignity, self-sufficiency, and life stability.
Don't miss the fun!
You can enjoy a leisurely walk with family and friends, then at the end, be treated to a free BBQ and enjoy the expo before you take a tour of the mission. Let us show you how your partnership is changing lives one at a time and how you can get involved with the Mission.
Make sure you get your friends and family involved to make an even bigger impact. You can send emails from your new walk page and post on your Facebook wall to get them to join your team or donate and sponsor you as you walk. Every little bit helps save the life of someone who has lost hope and needs a chance for a new life.
I'M IN! Now what?
There are several ways that you can get involved. Here's how:
Host a table at the Expo:Are you crafty? Do you have something that you'd like to sell? This year, we want to make sure the community has a chance to share talents and have some fun while people are eating the BBQ and waiting for a turn to tour the Mission. So sign up to host a table and show us what you have to offer! You can get a table free of charge. We ask only for a donation of your goods that can be raffled to help the men, women and children at the Mission. Contact Suzanne Peterson by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 425-740-2500 to register for a table.
Sponsor a participant: If you cannot walk with us, you can still help! Not everyone is able to join us and that's okay. You don't have to walk with us to change lives. Support those who are walking and we can change lives together! Click on the DONATE tab above to get started.
Pray: Please help us pray for the lives of the men, women and children in desperate need. Without the help of friends like you, we would lose even more to the streets. Pray that the Walk for Hope Here is a success and that we raise enough funds to buy food and to provide shelter for those in need.
To get started
It's not too late to participate! Click on the register button at the bottom of this page. You may start up a team from your office, church, book group, youth group, or sign up as an individual. All the tools you need to easily raise support and awareness are waiting.
It is free to participate, but we ask that each participant pursue a minimum of $50 and teams target a minimum of $1000. All participants that raise the minimum will receive the official Walk for Hope T-shirt. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help the thousands of hungry and desperate men, women and children in our community who have no one else.
Here are 3 ideas to get you started:
1. Self Donate Kick off your fundraising by making a personal, tax-deductible donation to help the homeless.
2. Ask a Friend! Ask 5 friends for $20 each. Or 10 friends for $10.
3. Host a Fundraising Event Get you friends or your church involved, host a bake sale or a garage sale.
Proceeds from the walk will go directly to the Everett Gospel Mission's programs for homeless children, women and men. Thank you for your commitment to give hope and help to the homeless in our community!
